Leaky Roof Studio  > More about the Images > The Images: Before and After
Many people ask what the images look like before I interpret them. I have found that "before and after" comparisons are popular with visitors to my exhibits. I have tried to pull together here a collection of comparisons that demonstrate some of the range and power of Photoshop as a creative tool. Enjoy.

Leaky Roof Studio > This was shot near Lake George, New York. The image is called Patience.
Leaky Roof Studio > This was shot on the West River in Vermont. The image is called Transitions. It makes use of repeated iterations of Photoshop's surface blur filter.
Leaky Roof Studio > Saw horses were the starting point for two images. We were fixing the leaky roof on the Leaky Roof Studio. The contractor had four of these wonderful old saw horses, which were covered with cuts and paint. I shot close ups across the top of each saw horse, creating about a dozen images. I played "jig saw puzzle" with the images, creating the collage image in the lower left corner, which I call "Saw Horses." (Original name, don't you think?) I pushed that image further, ending up with the more abstract image in the right lower corner, which I call "Hieronymus Saw Horse."
Leaky Roof Studio > This is a collage of two images. The stairway is an abandoned way at a reservoir. The background is shot from Blue Mountain in the New York Adirondacks. The two are combined to create an abandoned mountain path.
Leaky Roof Studio > The starting image was rip rap on a flood control dam. Thus a hidden pun in the title of the final image: "Path of Least Resistance."
Leaky Roof Studio > Can you find both Escher and the Banana?
Leaky Roof Studio > The original was shot at L'Anse aux Meadows on the northwest coast of Newfoundland. The image is called "Journey."
Leaky Roof Studio > This is an example of finding an image in an image. I found the tree reflected in the water and extracted it from original, where it is all but invisible.
Leaky Roof Studio > This is one of my earliest images. I had not yet learned of Photoshop's ability to track keystrokes. I remember roughly how I got to the result but I've never been able to reproduce the effect perfectly. I apparently am missing one or two key steps. Like missing one or two ingredients in a recipe, my attempts to do it again have not quite tasted the same.
